ABOUT

Jensin Okunishi Studio (JOS) is a custom rug studio exploring the immersive power of color, form, and material through contemporary design and quality craftsmanship. Founded by Jensin Okunishi in Japan in 2019 and now based in Atlanta—with the practice spanning both the U.S. and Japan—JOS offers an escape from the ordinary through richly considered, handmade rugs.

Rooted in close collaboration with skilled artisans, JOS merges time-honored weaving traditions with contemporary design, informed by material integrity and longevity. Prior to founding the studio, Okunishi worked at Eileen Fisher, where she deepened her understanding of responsible design, sustainability, and the value of creating objects meant to endure.

The studio’s work has been exhibited at ALCOVA Miami and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), named to DWELL magazine’s DWELL 24, and featured by publications such as Wallpaper, The Architects’s Newsletter, Business of Home of Home, and COVER, marking a growing presence within the international design landscape. Okunishi has collaborated with interior designers in the US and Japan.

Rooted in close collaboration with skilled artisans, Okunishi merges time-honored traditions with a contemporary design sensibility. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied Textile Design, and continues to explore how traditional craft can be reimagined for modern interiors.
